14 FAQs by Students & Parents
1. How much study time a week will I have to commit to?
There are no rules regarding the amount of hours you should spend studying for your french exam. For me, ideally, spending at least 3 to 4 hours a week on the subject would be ideal. (1 hour a week is not enough)
If you are studying with an e-course, you are expected to learn & understand the weekly lesson, then write your assignment for the end of the week and send it back to me. You will also be expected to use all the tools (worksheets, study planners, motivation check lists, podcasts…) provided on the platform and make the most of them.
2. What kind of support will I get from my tutor?
With the program, you will get a weekly support by an expert tutor (me!) all through the year. Your weekly written assignments will be corrected so you will see real progress being made. By using the constructive feedbacks, you will see yourself improving week by week.
I will contact you once a week by email to check in with you. This is your time to ask me all the questions you need. A monthly phone call will be made to your parents or yourself, depending on your situation.
3. What kind of learning material is provided in the Complete Step by Step Study Guidecourse?
Once you sign up for this e-course, you will get
- Weekly Learning strategies about time management, how to revise, how to make notes, how to deal with stress, how to rock the day of your exam and so much more
- Access to Study Planners & Worksheets to teach you how to manage your time better.
- Modules that will teach you How to Write the Perfect Journal Intime & Letters (formal & informal)
- Modules that will teach you How to Master the Written Comprehension with more than 10 comprehensions to practice with.
- Modules that will teach you How to Succeed at your Oral Exam. You will get tips to overcome anxiety, strategies for efficient practice, pronunciation tips, vocabulary lists, and worksheets to create your step by step oral, recorded podcasts for each unit.
- 11 Grammar Booklets with activities, exercises.
- 13 written texts with all the topics covered throughout the last few year.
- Continuous support from me.
4. Will you be able to help me write my French oral document?
I sure will. We can discuss the type of document you would like to present. You will just have to write down what you wish to share. I will correct it for you and send it back.
5. How will I be able to practice my oral? What is the “myFrench customised French oral”?
I offer one-to-one Skype or telephone session where you will be able to practice your oral during a one hour session and get a constructive feedback on your performance.
I would strongly recommend to get your own oral recorded. Once you have all your topics written down and corrected, send them to me and I will record your work. You will then be able to listen to your won customised oral on your computer, you Mp3 Player or your iPhone/iPod. I really believe this is the best option to choose.
6. How long will it take to get my assignment back?
You should be getting your feedback within 3 days. Once you enrol, you will be getting the general guidelines about the program. You will be noticed as well of the day of the week when all your assignments will be due throughout the year.
7. What if I don’t send the weekly assignment back on time?
This is one of the things I am extremely strict on. Your assignment has to be set by email the day you have been given. If you send it late, you won’t be receiving the next lesson until I get your assignment. This means that you will have only a few days to get back on track and learn the new lesson and do your assignment.
It is essential to understand from day one how important e-coursework is. It helps to consolidate and use what has been learned. All your work will be commented and corrected. Working on the tutor feedback is compulsory.
Each Tutor Assignment Feedback will be send by email within 3 days.
The parent/ guardian will be asked to provide an email address when enrolling their child. Each week when the assignment will be sent back by the tutor, the parent/guardian’s email address will be added onto the email. That way each parent can follow their child’s work and progress.
8. How are the programs different from a traditional grind lesson?
Because the e-courses provide step-by-step lessons, you will get the same benefits as you would have got in a one-to-one grind’s lesson environment but you will also be able to study on your own at home or wherever you choose + get my help whenever you need it.
I am tempted to add another one: it’s different and fun. A new way of learning is always more motivational and more fun to discover.
9. How are the e-courses structured?
The student will work on a week-by-week basis and will get 2 emails a week
- Email 1 : the weekly module with worksheets + audio material+ assignment
- Email 2 : the assignment feedback and support check in from the tutor
You will also get access to the website where additional resources will be available. (Blog, podcasts, cultural news and much more)
You will get a study timetable with weekly and monthly planners that will help you plan your reading, activities and assignments.
You will also get learning strategies and tools to study actively.
10. Can I enrol my child at any time during the year?
You can of course. If you are not sure about what the e-course would suit best your child’s needs, I would advise you to contact me in order to discuss the different options available. (one-to-one tuition, e-courses, crash course).
11. My daughter is a 5th year student; can she start on one of the e-courses?
Well done! That’s a great idea and initiative to start her off early revising for the French Leaving Cert.
- It will give her the opportunity to work at her own pace.
- She will have time to make the most of all the resources provided on the website.
- She will get support and guidance for 2 years.
- She will be very confident and at ease in French next year, so she will be able to concentrate on other challenging subjects.
I would advise you to enroll her to The Complete Step by Step Study Guidecourse as it covers the entire syllabus.
12. I would much prefer my son having one-to-one grinds. Do you offer this?
We offer punctual one-to-one sessions to support and teach students in any area they might need help with (oral, written, grammar, comprehension, learning strategies).
At the moment, we do not offer weekly online grinds. However, the number of our students is increasing so fast that I am pretty confident that this service may be offered in the near future, please do check the website regularly.
13. My child is not very familiar and comfortable with using a computer? Is there another option to access the e-course?
I would advise you to contact me as there is always a way to meet your child’s need. According to the e-course you are thinking of enrolling him to and also the time of your request, I am sure we will be able to find the best option.
